Belgian woman with 3-year-old, 3-month-old sons killed in Manhattan attack

A Belgian woman with 3-year-old and 3-month-old sons was identified as one of the lives lost in the terror attack in lower Manhattan.
The family of Ann-Laure Decadt, a 31-year-old originally from the town of Roeselare, Flanders, confirmed to the Daily News Wednesday that their loved one had been killed.
“This loss is unbearable and unthinkable,” her husband Alexander Naessens said in a statement.
“Anne-Laure ... was a fantastic wife and the most beautiful mom to our two sons.”
Provided by a spokesman of the Decadt family to Christopher Brennan, Nov. 1, 2017.

Ann-Laure Decadt, of Belgium, was one of eight victims killed in a terrorist truck attack in Manhattan.

Her mother and two sisters, who had been biking with her, were not harmed when they were “surprised by the danger that came from behind.”
Naessens said that he received the news of his wife’s passing in a phone call from Lower Manhattan Hospital Tuesday night in Belgium, and asked for privacy for his family.
Decadt was planning on leaving the U.S. Friday after arriving with her mother and two sisters in New York last weekend, family spokesman Francesco Vanderjeugd, the mayor of Staden, Belgium, told the News.

“This is a shock in our city, it is a small community of only about 11,000 people,” the mayor said, adding that her relatives in Belgium do not plan on going to the U.S. and are looking into repatriating their loved one’s body.
Despite her small town roots Decadt’s social media pages show a love of adventure, with pictures of her bungy-jumping in South Africa and long-distance biking in Benin.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders said that three other Belgians traveling in the U.S. were among those injured by ISIS-inspired attacker Sayfullo Saipov.
